Chanel Fall 2011: Epatant and Illusoire

I purchased just two of the new Illusion D'Ombre shadows from Chanel's Fall 2011 collection: #83 Illusoire -- a metallic smoky plum and #84 Epatant -- a metallic pewter. I enjoyed the detailed reviews at The Beauty Look Book and Cafe Makeup and planned to get a couple to test before splurging for more shades. I wasn't sure what to expect texture-wise, but when swatching them today I was impressed. From what I've seen this far, these just might bump my favorite Armani Eyes to Kill into second place. The Illusion D'Ombre product has an interesting, spongy cream texture (as opposed to Eyes to Kill, which seems to be more like a loosely pressed pigment).

love both of these shades and look forward to testing out the other four shades available (EblouiEmerveilleFantasme, and Mirifique) when the collection arrives at my local counter. The shimmery peach shade, Emerveille, is definitely next on my wishlist!

  1. Thanks for the review on these 2 shades. I also like the texture of these more compared to ETK. The shades seem quite similar to those in the spring Perles de Ombre. I look forward to seeing Mirifique next.

  2. Gorgeous photos! I originally though I wanted Epatant, but now Illusoire is looking extremely appealing. Or maybe both, or all. I am waiting to see these at the counter.

  3. Hi Kristie, Thanks for stopping by! That's what I thought, too -- the colors are very similar! I think these are more shimmery/metallic. :)

Hi ZP, Decisions, decisions!:P I know it's tough when they are all sooo pretty :)

  4. I still can't decide whether I want to try these or not. I still haven't even tried the GA ETK!! I keep thinking they will be too sparkly for me to get any use out of them.

  5. Hi
I have three of these(Epatant,Illusoire and Emerveille) . I initially passed on the red/brown but I may cave soon. I like the texture and find them easy to apply with the brush (which I really like). Gorgeous photos as usual. x

  6. Hi Perilously Pale, No doubt these are sparkly. I heard that GA will be releasing a matte version of ETK soon, maybe that will be a good time to try them out! :)

Hi Makeup Merriment, Thanks :) I like these a lot and will probably get a couple more. I applied Illusoire as a liner early this morning and it has really worn well so far - it's lunch time and it hasn't budged!

  7. They look fab! Do they have good staying power?

  8. Hello,
Beautiful photos, these are the two shades that appeal to me the most, thing is I do worry that they will be like the formula of the ones in the Ombres Perleés spring palette as I really didn't get on with that texture.

  9. Hi Make-up Fairy, Yes, they seem to have good staying power, although I only used one for the first time today (as a smudged out liner). It stayed put all day. :)

Hi Replica, Thank you! :) I haven't used the Ombres Perlees (only swatched it in-store) but from what I remember, the Perlees is more powdery than these. In the jar these have a thick, bouncy, cream texture. When applying to my eyes, the finish was similar to that of some soft cream liners I've used, but can be easily blended out. They are VERY shimmery!

  10. I need to get to a counter to try these out in person before taking the plunge and ordering online. Those two colors you have are the ones that most appeal to me, especially Illusoire. I love your photos, BTW! I am adding your blog to my blog roll, I love your blog so much! Keep up the great work.

  11. Hi HDTM, Thanks so much! I am liking these so far - they are different than anything else I have. I was at the mall yesterday and the SA at the Chanel counter was unpacking and displaying the fall collection. I tried on the white one - it's super sparkly but pretty :)
