Halloween shades for nails

Last year I posted a small Halloween nail polish feature and I decided to make it a tradition and post some colors again this year that I think would look fabulous as an accent for a Halloween ensemble. Orange is a classic Halloween color and would be a great choice as well, but since I don't own a true orange I went with mostly greens and purples. And of course I included a glossy raven black--the quintessential Halloween favorite, represented here by Butter London's Union Jack Black. Now to decide which of these I'll wear on the 31st! (Light-up spiders and jack o'lantern are from Target, and glitter pumpkin was purchased at Michael's.)

  1. China Glaze - Starboard
  2. OPI - Fresh Frog of Bel Air
  3. Butter London - Dosh
  4. Nina Ultra Pro - Mossy Britches
  5. Butter London - Union Jack Black
  6. Deborah Lippmann - Wicked Game
  7. Claire's Cosmetics - Venomous
  8. Deborah Lippmann - Dark Side of the Moon
  9. OPI - Grape...Set...Match
  10. Revlon - Facets of Fuchsia
  11. China Glaze - Senorita Bonita

  1. Impossible to decide! I love the purple sparkly gourd the best of all, perhaps!

Are you going to wear a costume? :)

  2. Hi Liz, we have a little Halloween party at work every year & I think I may go as a witch. Not a very original costume, but easy & I found a perfect glam, but inexpensive witch hat! :)

  3. I love this post! Venomous jumped out at me right away. What a beautiful unique shade. Which will you wear this year?

  4. Fabulous! And I adore your Halloween accessories. I'm going to have to find out if my local Claire's has nail polish now as I'm very taken with Venomous. Thank you for taking the time to create such a wonderful post x

  5. Thanks Kristie! Venomous is pretty & unique but the only downside is it is VERY sheer so needs at least 4 coats to look good! On the plus side it's inexpensive :)

Thanks Jane! I didn't know Claire's was international - that's good to know that they have stores 'across the pond' as well :) Venomous needs LOTS of coats to look good, but it is an interesting color! xx

  6. P.S. Kristie, I'm thinking of Facets of Fuchsia! :)

  7. There are some very pretty and interesting shades there, I love your little halloween spiders, your posts are always such a visual treat :) x

  8. Thanks very much Replica! The spiders flash blue & red :) they'll be part of my little Halloween decorations around the house this year! xx

  9. At the moment, I'm drawn to Mossy Britches and Dosh. Halloween seems like a good excuse to wear green nails to work!

By the way, I'm tickled pink by your new Magpie header! It's so fun and fitting =) Was it a hand drawing?

  10. Hi Dovey, Yes, it's a great excuse to wear green to the office, something I wouldn't normally be able to pull off!

Thanks for the sweet compliment about the header - I've had the idea for a while and a coworker was kind enough to sketch it for me! :)

  11. I love your polish posts!! I need to go check out Mossy Britches. Awesome name and color! :D

  12. Yay Halloween! I really like that Butter "Dosh" shade.

Also, I love celebrating holidays in sequential order - I hate that we have to think about Christmas earlier and earlier every year!

  13. I love love this post! Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. Also, you've convinced me I need DL Wicked Game,

Awesome pics like usual! Thank you for this post :D

  14. Hi Rachel, Thanks very much! It's a funny name isn't it? I found it on sale at Sally Beauty over the weekend :)

Hi Lexi, Dosh is a nice chartreuse green & different from anything else I have! :)
I'm the same about celebrating holidays - I think they should wait at least until Halloween is over before putting out the Christmas merchandise!

Hi The Ultimate Makeup, Thank you! :) Halloween is great because it's all about fun! I like Wicked Game for anytime - and it especially looks nice if you're wearing grey tones in your outfit.
