OPI Muppet Collection Holiday 2011 - Shimmers

I found half of OPI's Muppet Collection polishes on Friday at a local nail supply. I've been looking forward to this collection for months! I grew up watching the Muppet Show and the Muppet Movie of 1979 is a classic. Chances are if you were a child of the 70's you'll remember Kermit's (Jim Henson's) sweet ballad "Rainbow Connection" at the beginning of the movie -- so cute. There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, and the rest of the gang.

These are great festive shades for fall and will come in handy for the holiday season. There is not a single creme in the collection, although the closest would be Pepe's Purple Passion as the shimmer flakes in this one do not show up well within its semi-opaque base. The entire collection consists of six shimmers and six glitters, but today I'll be showing you just the shimmers (I'll be going back for the glitters as soon as they arrive in-store).

Designer, De Better! - silver foil shimmer with flecks of copper microglitter
Warm & Fozzie - sheer brown base with lots of bronze and coppery-pink microglitter
Pepe's Purple Passion - semi-opaque dark burgundy with small shimmer flakes
Animal-istic - vibrant and sparkly red-orange with fine glass fleck shimmer
Meep-Meep-Meep - deep fuchsia with small shimmer flakes
Wocka Wocka! - smooth opaque berry-red shimmer

Swatches below are all with two coats and a layer of Poshe topcoat. None of these have a glossy finish so they can definitely benefit from an extra-generous amount of topcoat, especially Pepe's Purple Passion which dries with an uneven texture and looks somewhat dull on it's own.

I think the must-have shade in this collection is Warm & Fozzie as it seems to be the most unique. I really love Meep-Meep-Meep but I've seen very similar colors on the market in recent years.

Please note that although Wocka Wocka! looks like a medium red in these swatches, I tried it today on my nails and it dries down to a wine shade that is quite a bit darker than what you see below in these photos taken in bright sunlight.

I wore Meep-Meep-Meep on my nails all weekend. I think it would make a great pedicure color!

  3. These are all so beautiful. And as a fellow Muppet fan and child of the 70's, I feel duty bound to have at least one. I think Meep-Meep-Meep grabs me the most, which is rather fitting as I've done a few Beaker impressions in my time... ;)

  7. Hi pinkribbons - it is a cute themed collection. Warm & Fozzie is a nice shade for fall & very unique, I think :)

Hi Martha, Warm & Fozzie was the one that first caught my eye when I saw these. :) Pepe's Purple is a pretty color, but I was a little disappointed that the shimmer doesn't show up much & it is not very smooth-textured. It looks best with LOTS of topcoat :)

  8. I think I had an Animal-istic moment when I saw this post. So excited! I'm more on the tail end of the muppets generation, but I still remember muppets VHS's. These are surprisingly nice colors. Warm and Fozzie initially caught my eye, but on second glance I love Animal-istic and Wocka Wocka. Suprisingly Designer da better and Warm and Fozzy are mixed glitters which actually looks complex and pretty.

Speaking of muppets, do you have a favorite muppet?

  11. Hi Dovey, I tried Animal-istic on last night and it looks so sparkly in bright light :) I think I'll pick Kermit as my favorite, but I love the funnier characters like Animal, Beaker and the Swedish Chef a lot :)

Hi Polarbelle, Thank you! Is it sad that I am well past thirty & still love stuff like this :) lol

  12. Agreed - loving Warm & Fozzie! I totally remember watching this as a 4yr old at the theater. This song still makes me smile!

I'm surprised that there isn't any pink Ms. Piggy themed shades.

  13. Hi Lexi, It's such a cute movie - brings back memories! I think there is at least one Miss Piggy themed shade in the other half of the collection, which is all glitters. I will be looking for those soon! :)
