NARS Diamond Life

Today I have for you the polish Diamond Life from NARS' spring 2012 collection. Diamond Life is a foil-like, metallic grape/violet shade. I love all things purple so this was a must for me. The color is beautiful, but I found the formula to be a bit difficult to work with. It took a longer than average time to dry and I actually ended up making a mess of my fingers (my own fault!). But I think I have the hang of it now and should do a better job next time. The key to applying this polish is to make sure you have enough polish on the brush and then work very quickly to cover the entire nail in as few strokes as possible. When I would apply more polish in an attempt to even out an area that was still wet, the polish would just get gloopy. On the plus side, since the formula is so thick and opaque you only need one coat for full coverage. I will try to do some color comparisons in the future. Offhand, I cannot think of any identical shades in my collection although I do have some in the same color family.

I broke a nail and trimmed the rest down to match, so apologies for the state of my nails -- it is at times like these I wish I had a hand model to photograph! Perhaps I will enlist a friend to be a guest model sometime!

Here is a look at Diamond Life in the shade. I like the look of the sunlight coming through behind the leaves--sort of wish my hand wasn't there ruining the picture, lol!

I love the little ladybug with its cheery, polka-dotted shell. When this one flew past, at first I thought it was a bee, as they are ubiquitous in my backyard and I like to keep at a respectable distance from them -- but a ladybug is a far rarer and happy sight!

So, what do you think? Will you be sporting Diamond Life this spring?

  1. The first nail varnish I bought myself, the very first time I stopped biting my nails, back when I was about 14 was a very frosty purple that was pretty much identical to this, although it was from Woolworths not Nars! Just wish I could remember who made it. Not loving this frosty look 32 years later I have to say!

  2. Love the lady bug! So cute. =D

I'm not a fan of pale shimmery metallics and the formula sounds like a bummer, so I will pass this time. In fact, I'm passing on the entire NARS spring collection... but it looks wonderful on you and I adore your tropical paradise of a backyard! You always make your posts so beautiful.

  3. Hi ihavemostlybeen, Yep, this is definitely on the frosty side, but maybe just a bit more opaque than the older formulas. I loved the old Woolworth's store! There was one in my area that I used to go to as a kid that had a diner inside and a stand-up food counter too! Now the whole space is a big Barnes & Noble store.

Hi Liz, Thank you for the kind words! :) Yep I don't think this is a must-have unless you are in LOVE with the color. At first I had considered skipping the whole collection too, but I really wanted the shadows and blush! I finally narrowed it down to four items and skipped the eyeliner and lip products! :)

  4. Very pretty shade! I find that NARS polishes chip easy on me though.

  8. Like my love of Grey, Taupe, or Greige nail shades - purples are also slowly taking over my collection. I know I was not going to purchase any more but I may have to create space for this one. I'm curious to see what it looks like on my NC 42 skin tone!

Loving the pics - how can you be mad when you see ladybugs?

  10. Hi Lexi, This is a pretty color, but if you have a chance, try it on to see if you like the formula! I like that it covers very well. It's on the frosty side :)

Hi LauraMck, It is a pretty shade, isn't it? :)

  11. I love this colour! And yes, you're right about foil formulas being somewhat finicky; you have to work fast and as you said, make sure your brush is pretty loaded up. The garden shots are a welcome sight; we're in the midst of a major snowstorm here (Montreal) - so, thank you! Appreciate the glimpse of spring, both in the flowers and on your nails!

  12. Hi Eugenia, I'm glad you liked the garden photos! I hope you fare well in the snowstorm and get some spring weather as early as possible :) In Miami, it seems we have been having a warmer than usual winter this year, which is OK with me! :)
