NARS Summer 2012

Hi guys! I hope you are all having a great Cinco de Mayo! I'm finally getting around to posting the items I chose from NARS Summer 2012. I ordered these at NARS.com a couple of weeks ago but the collection is now available at store counters. Since there have already been so many great reviews of these items posted in the beauty blogosphere, I will skip the detailed color descriptions and will let the photos speak for themselves. One interesting surprise I received with this collection was my Ramatuelle palette -- read on to see what I mean!

"One of these things is not like the other"...

Take a look at the palette on the top-left. What is wrong with this picture? I received a "special" Ramatuelle palette--one with two peach pans and no silver. Apparently, someone was having an "off" day at the factory. Despite the minor mishap, I was very happy with the service at NARS. I quickly received a replacement palette, along with a complimentary shadow base, and best of all I get to hold on to my freak Ramatuelle palette (which I've grown quite fond of). I now have enough peachy-orange shadow to last a lifetime! Yeah!

Don't mind my short nails! Just when they start to grow one will break and then I have to trim them all down because I like all of them to be the same length (because I'm weirdly OCD like that).

Trouville is such a lovely shade of salmon pink. I'm not sure if it's all that unique, but it is very pretty and feminine, and easy to wear. I think it would look great on toes! No complaints about the formula. It went on well and was not too streaky.

It was very hot outside when I was taking these photos and my pencils started to melt. This is why the Velvet Matte lip pencil above looks a bit shiny, and the Calabria pencil below started sliding around in its casing. (Note to self: Do not leave expensive, brand-new makeup outside in 90-degree weather for more than a few minutes at a time!)

The Marie Galante duo has an interesting cream-powder hybrid texture that helps it adhere well to the skin. Although it is quite sparkly, the particles are very fine so there is no grittiness. Based on first impressions, I like this formula a lot more than that of the recent Night Series palette. You can see how beautiful this palette looks when applied, on Makeupzone.net. I pinned the look to my Beauty Inspiration board on Pinterest.  (I'm new to Pinterest and would love it if you would follow me! I haven't had a chance to update my boards as often as I'd like, but it's a lot of fun to do when I have the spare time. Would love to see what inspires you!)

I hope to post more photos of some of these items as I try them out over the next several days. I know it's usually more helpful to see products actually applied on someone's face rather than just swatches!

~ Thanks for stopping by ~

    1. Thanks Tracy! I love the trio - it gives a nice natural-looking glowy look that is neutral enough to go with almost any lip shade :)

    1. Hi Jacqueline, I have two or three of the Velvet Matte pencils and like that they are fairly long lasting :)

  6. Ramatuelle looks beautiful both ways! I still haven't gotten it, but I am loving Liberte.

    1. Hi Martha, I was worried at first that Liberte might be too intense, like a brick red, but was so happy to see that it is actually really wearable, even by those with fair skin! :)

  7. I absolutely love your photographs! Using a mirror as a background is so clever: it really draws attention to the products.

You're making me rethink not getting Marie Galante duo!

    1. Thanks so much Jessica! The mirror is a nice background to use because shadows don't show up as much as they do when I use a white background :)
I think the Marie Galante duo is very pretty - I'm looking forward to testing it out to see just how sparkly it is on the eyes!

    1. Hi Liz, Thanks so much! Yeah, what was at first a little disappointing actually turned out better than if I had gotten a normal palette to begin with :D NARS.com has always had really good customer service, in my experience.

  9. Gorgeous haul :) I love your special palette-what a fun accident! The worst that's happened to me is a crooked NARS sticker on a nail polish. I think the new ramatuelle looks like it would fit well into the blush/bronzer category now

    1. Hi Dovey! Thank you :) I keep telling myself I don't need anything from the new collections, but my favorite brands like NARS are always so tempting! Yes, that's a great idea - I thought it might work as a bronzer and the light shimmery color can be used as a highlighter :)

  10. Hey! Lovely pictures and your peachy orange shadow kick is contagious! I just pulled out my LMdB Tuscan Sunset and Innocence shadows to wear today.. you must try them! Can you think of any dupes for Trouville? I was wondering if it would be a bit like Chanel Tendresse..

  11. Hi Lakshmi! LMdB's Innocence is such a pretty shade. I haven't tried Tuscan Sunset, but I love pretty much anything from LMdB :)
Offhand, I can't think of an exact dupe for Trouville but I know I must have similar shades. I think that Tendresse is a bit more sheer and is not as peachy. I should pull them out to do a comparison sometime soon!

  12. Stunning pictures as usual! That is so funny about Ramatuelle! I was wanting Marie Galante so badly when it was first released but then started hearing about poor pigmentation and creasing. Are you happy with it. I still keep thinking that over the right base it would be so lovely. The look you pinned must be over a black base? That is what I was wanting to try with it.

    1. Hi Christa, Thanks so much! I haven't gotten around to trying Marie Galante on my eyes yet. I liked the way it swatched, but I think it might work better for someone with dry skin, due to the cream-powder texture. I do think the look I pinned must be over a dark base because I don't think it could appear that intense without something really dark underneath! Will definitely try to do a post with some photos when I try it out! :)

  13. I love almost everything in this collection! Sadly, I haven't picked up a single item - I'm trying to be good but it's not very fun! LOL I think I will be getting Trouville for sure though, its just too pretty! I recently discovered NARS has a lanolin-based ingredient in their blush and shadows, which I'm allergic to, so I'm scared to pick up any more blush (though I already own five!), but Liberte looks fantastic!

Oh, and I'm following you now on Pinterest - I can't believe that look was created by the Marie-Galante duo, it's AMAZING!

    1. Hi Toyarosie, I know what you mean about trying to be good. But you are making a wise decision! One of my goals is to drastically cut down on spending. Reading and blogging about beauty I am constantly tempted by the new collections!

  14. Gorgeous! Does the nail polish have shimmer? For some reason I thought it did and skipped it but it looks amazing on you.
The Thakoon nail polishes are amazing too!

    1. Hi Michelle, Thank you! :) No shimmer in Trouville. I saw the Thakoon polishes on Saturday - they are beautiful! I love the light blue in that collection! :)

  15. That's really funny that you have received a freak Ramatuelle palette and I'm glad NARS sent you the correct one.

I like your idea of using a mirror underneath photographed objects. You always take pretty and creative pictures. Just seeing these beautiful pictures brightens my day :)

I bought the Ramatuelle palette as well, along with Liberté blush and Trouville nail polish. It's my first time buying NARS polish and I don't think I'm happy with it unfortunately. It's a pretty color but the nail polish formula was disappointing. I had applied it to my nails last night and had waited 2 hours before I started going about my usual business. I found out just before going to bed that the polish was smooshed inward from the tips. It was very frustrating that I have to waste time doing my manicure again :(

    1. Hi Paige, Aw, thanks for the kinds words! :) I had the same issue with Trouville -- it smushed up at the tips, but I thought it was because I started typing too soon after applying it and didn't wait long enough for it to dry. But since it happened to you too it must be the formula! I find that some Nars polishes are better than others. I bought mine online before trying it, but I should probably test it out in the store before buying next time!
