Twilight Night Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($22) and Twilight Shimmer Nail Polish ($18) are two of the items that caught my eye from Bobbi Brown's Fall 2012 collection, Desert Twilight, while I was in the mall this weekend. I love coordinating colors and these two are a perfect pair!
Twilight Night gel liner is an interesting shade. In the container it appears to be a very dark, smoky amethyst with fine gold shimmer, but in certain lighting it looks more like gunmetal. Most surprising of all was when I wore it on my eyes it shifted into a smoky indigo shade, kind of like blackened denim.
In the macro photo above you can see the multiple shades of shimmer. When I look closely I can definitely see gold and blue, and what looks like it might be fuchsia. What actually shows up on the eye is just a subtle overall neutral sparkle.
Twilight nail polish in the bottle is a smoky raisin shade with shimmer. On the nails, in some lighting it looks like gunmetal and at other times a softly shimmery plum. Off hand it calls to mind Dior's Aztec Chocolate, although it's not really the same. Shades like this are great to transition into fall and are a nice departure from the corals and pinks I've been wearing for months. If anyone is interested in seeing color comparisons, please let me know in the comments and I'd be happy to do so!
The formula is thick and provides opaque coverage in just one coat, but I used two for evenness. I also used one coat of Poshe topcoat to make it glossier. I haven't worn this long enough to speak about wear-time, but will try to post an update once I've had it on for a few days.
In the photo above that was taken in the shade you can see that the shimmer is much less apparent. Twilight is the type of shade that really only comes to life in sunlight or under direct lighting indoors. The photo below was taken in cooler lighting indoors.

Miss Kitty update
It's been a while since I've shared any photos of my fur-baby, Miss Kitty. She has been contentedly living a life of leisure but she despises the summer heat, what with all that fur! Thank goodness for air conditioning. We would all be miserable without it. My thoughts and sympathies are with the folks in the Eastern U.S. who are dealing with record heat and power outages, and with those who have been affected by the wildfires in the West..jpg)
I sleep all day while you are out working to earn money to feed my enormous appetite with the finest kibble, endless Fancy Feast, and deli meat treats. Keep it comin' lady!
And why, pray tell, are you disturbing my slumber? This had better be important.
Stop with your shenanigans woman, and get that suspicious-looking bottle away from me.
Perhaps if I look away for long enough she will get the message and leave.
~ Thanks for visiting! ~

Oh god, that is a gorgeous pair. And I love what's going on with the eyelashes! The lashes kind of match Miss Kitty, too, come to think of it. :) I don't think that I'm going to start on the Bobbi Brown nail polish but interested to see what you'll be picking up in the future.
ReplyDeleteHi Liz, Thank you! I started to take the photos without the lashes but my own puny lashes alone didn't do the liner justice! haha. This is the only Bobbi Brown polish I own so far... :)
DeleteYour captions made my day :) And this pairing is divine! I love the inky, smoky, violet chocolate color. It seems unique and very rich.
ReplyDeleteHi Larie, thank you! :) I know it's nowhere near fall yet but I'm liking all these dark shades now! :)
DeleteI love what Bobbi Brown does with shimmer! She makes such interesting, complex shades. The eyeliner looks gorgeous on your eyes as it really brings out the blue in them! Your kitty is TOO cute btw :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kar Yi, Thank you for the kind comment! Miss Kitty is a funny character. She's a great pet :)
DeleteSeriously, so pretty. I need to get to a Bobbi Brown counter, stat! (And maybe a Sephora while I'm at it -- those lashes are perfection.)
ReplyDelete<3 !
Hi Rae, thanks again! :) The lashes are great. I rarely wear them, but they sure do make all the difference! :)
DeleteThat liner looks stunning on you!
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, Thanks so much :)
DeleteSoo beautiful. The lashes look amazing, I can never put one on :(
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle, Thanks for the sweet comment. :) Putting on lashes definitely takes practice (and patience!). I'm not very good at it!
DeleteThe liner and polish are gorgeous, but really, Miss Kitty steals the show. Sadly, I think that only the liner and polish will be for sale up here...
ReplyDeleteHi Kate, Thank you! Miss Kitty is so funny - her expression looks mean most of the time, but she's really a sweetie :)
DeleteI absolutely loved this post. Animals and beauty are probably my two biggest loves! (If there was as Miss Kitty fan club, you know I'd be in it.) I love her white chin, those yellow with green eyes, and the haphazard tufts of hair in her ear. Sigh :)
ReplyDeleteHi Dovey, Thank you so much on behalf of Miss Kitty! :)) She is always fun to photograph, with all her fluffiness. :)
DeleteWhoa! Both shades are really gorgeous. I think you can practically sell me anything with your photos. Simply amazing :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kristie, Aw, thank you for the kind words! Coming from you, who are such a great photographer that means a lot! :))
DeleteGod, that is so gorgeous! The liner looks like it is perfectly smudged and smoky because the color is so soft--yet it still defines your eye beautifully and the shimmer keeps it interesting. Love this! It truly looks amazing on you and the fab whispy lashes at the outer corner!
ReplyDeleteHi Becaa, Thank you so much! :) I like the color of the liner -- it's a little different than anything else I have. I never wear lashes out, but I think next time I go out at night I should give it a try because they really add instant drama! :)
DeleteКрасивый макияж!
ReplyDeleteHi Svetlana, Thanks for commenting!
DeleteBeautiful presentation as always:))
ReplyDeleteWe're having such a dismal north european summer that wearing Autumn colors already would surely send me over the edge! GOT to keep wearing happy tropical colors and pretend that we're enjoying glorious sunny days!
Hi Buggsiebee, Thank you :)) Aw, I can definitely understand how you would want to stay away from colors like this! Enjoy all of those bright and cheery tropical colors! :)
DeleteThat nail polish is so pretty and I love your eye look, another enticing post as always x
ReplyDeleteHi Replica, thank you! :) I love to use liquid/gel liner for an easy eye look that has some drama! x
Deletethose pictures are tdf! I never would have thought the gel liner is THAT pretty, it looks gorgeous on you! I also like the nail polish <3
ReplyDeleteHi Claire, Thank you! I like the liner color for something different than my usual black or brown but is still not too colorful, so it's easy to wear! :)
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful. I loved the entire look. I will be going to a Bobbi Brown counter soon to purchase the polish and liner. What color was on your lips? It complimented the look so well. Your photography is like no other!
ReplyDeleteJen
Hi Jen, Thanks for the kind comment! :) I used MAC products on my lips - "Venus" lipstick from the Heavenly Creatures collection + a little bit of MAC's "Ruffian Gold" on top (it's just a very sheer sparkly gold shade) :)
DeleteThe liner and polish are absolutely gorgeous! Almost as gorgeous as Miss Kitty! Bobbi Brown really has a knack with doing neutrals with a bit of a kick!
ReplyDeleteHi lov2read68, I agree Bobbi Brown does do neutrals that have a little something special! Thank you on behalf of Miss Kitty :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful combination, the liner makes your eyes pop. I adore you cat, what I wouldn't give to give Miss Kitty a tummy rub.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline, Thank you :) Miss Kitty would love a tummy rub lol :) She likes when I scratch the top of her head most of all!
DeleteYou have gorgeous eyes! The liner looks beautiful against the color of your eyes. Okay, will stop before I start sounding like a creepy delurker. Just had to send some props to you.
ReplyDeleteAnd your cat? Very cool.
Hi Beth, lol thank you so much! You are kind :) Props much appreciated! :)
DeleteThat is a lovely shade.
ReplyDeleteHi :) yes, I like that it's a little bit edgy but still very wearable
DeleteLove the liner and you did a great job with the pics! x
ReplyDeleteHi Nic, Thanks so much! :)
DeleteGorgeous color! Looks amazing with your skin tone ^.^
ReplyDeleteHi PDXBeautiful, thank you for the kind comment! :)
DeleteThe way you paired these is really lovely - I'm sure they're meant to go together, but you really bring the two to life, bravo! They look stunning on you!
ReplyDeleteHi Toyarosie, Thank you for the kind comment! :)
DeleteThis kind of looks like Mac for effect. It's really gorgeous. The liner and eyelashes compliment each other wonderfully. You look absolutely stunning in the photos. Are the eyeliner and nail polish limited edition? I'm guessing they are because it says 2012.
ReplyDeleteI came to look at the (awesome) eyeliner swatches, but you had me screaming with laughter over the kitty commentary! LOL! Ah, the kitties, with their selfish ways and nonchalant attitudes...gotta love em, LOL. Thanks for sharing. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi goregois.net, Thank you! :) Miss Kitty is is the most moody, suspicious and antisocial cat I've ever had... but then once in a while she'll get in a lovey mood and want to be near me... she's definitely an interesting girl! Gotta love her lol :)
DeleteHi, I'm french, so excuse my poor english !
ReplyDeleteThis liner looks very great on you, you convinced me to buy it !
But I need to know, what did you put on your eyes ? And how did you put the liner (with what kind of brush ? and just HOW ? because I'm not very good with liner...) ?
It will be nice if you can answer,
Thank you !
(the cat is sooo cute !)
Hi M.argote,
DeleteI used the MAC liner brush #210. Sonia Kashuk, Smashbox, and Sephora all have bent eyeliner brushes that are easy to work with. (Sephora pro bent eyeliner brush #23 $17USD). For eyeshadow, I used a light shimmery beige-ivory shade from MAC's eyeshadow duo called "This & That" and used partial false eyelashes, since mine are so short!
Applying gel and liquid liner definitely takes some practice and I am still learning - the tricky part is getting the angle for the "flick" or "wing" to correctly suit your own eye shape. I like to apply a thicker line along the outer lash line and then taper the line so that it becomes much more narrow at the inner eye area (tear duct).
I've seen many good tutorials on applying winged liner on YouTube. Here is a link to one that may be helpful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4F6HA9K4G4
Best wishes!
Absolutely stunning post!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :)
