Lancome Color Design Infinite Shadow: Electrifying Sparkle

Hi everyone! I'm sorry it's been a long while since my last post. Life has gotten in the way, as it tends to do from time to time! But today I'm back to share some swatches of a recent purchase: Lancome's new Color Design Infinité shadow in Electrifying Sparkle--a sparkly platinum-olive that belongs to the same color family as shades such as the cult-favorite Erika F. and Chanel's Épatant, among others. The Color Design Infinité shadows are along the lines of Giorgio Armani's Eyes To Kill shadows and L'Oreal's Infallible shadows, which is not surprising, given that both of these brands are part of the L'Oreal Group.

A word of caution: If you already own any of the L'Oreal Infallible shades, I recommend checking your collection before purchasing any of Lancome's Color Design Infinité shadows. I brought home two shades that, once I compared them to my Infallible shadows, I realized were extremely close, if not downright identical, to existing L'Oreal shades. The two I purchased were Extreme Expresso (dupe of L'Oreal's Continuous Cocoa) and Eternal Gold (near-dupe of L'Oreal's Eternal Sunshine). I'm sorry I don't have comparison photos, but I already exchanged them for different shades. I did not purchase any others that I thought might have a L'Oreal counterpart, but there were at least two others that look suspiciously similar to existing L'Oreal shades. The amount of product provided is the same for both: 0.12 oz; however, the price for the Lancome product is $24.50 versus only $7.99 (and sometimes less) for the L'Oreal product. There is no noticeable difference in quality between the two, so unless you prefer the more appealing Lancome packaging, it would be a shame to waste your money unnecessarily.

That being said, there are a few beautiful colors at Lancome that I definitely have not seen from any other brands. (I purchased three additional shades, all purples, which I hope to show you later in the week.) There are currently fifteen shades offered, and although none are quite as complex as some of the gorgeous shades available at Armani, they are still definitely worth a look, especially if you are a fan of this type of loosely-pressed pigment, long-wearing shadow formula.

Comparisons

  1. Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner: Skinny Jeans
  2. Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream: #2 Steel
  3. Chanel Illusion D'Ombre: Épatant
  4. Lancome Color Design Infinité: Electrifying Sparkle
  5. MAC Extra Dimension Eyeshadow: Modern Pewter
  6. Lancome Ombre Absolue: Erika F.
  7. Chanel Stylo Yeux Eyeliner: Rose Platine*
  8. Chanel Le Crayon Yeux Eyeliner: Khaki Platine
*I'm sorry, I don't know why I chose to include Rose Platine -- it is a great color, but not really comparable, being more of a brownish-taupe rather than silvery-olive!

Electrifying Sparkle next to Chanel's Épatant. The color is similar but Electrifying Sparkle has a smoky base.

  1. When I read that there was no real difference between these and the L'Oreal Infallibles, I was just about ready to write these off, but then I saw the swatches of Electrifying Sparkle...its so rich and beautiful compared to the other shades. It really is lovely!

  3. How does the benefit skinny jeans compare, as it's not in the swatches?

    1. Hi Mimi, The color is similar, but Skinny Jeans is not as sparkly and perhaps it is a bit more gunmetal-toned. Skinny Jeans has a cream texture whereas the Lancome is a powder/pigment. I confess I didn't swatch the Skinny Jeans just because it is past its prime and very dried up - definitely time to toss it! :) I don't use up my Benefit shadow-liners quickly enough and certain shades tend to dry up and get hard over time.

    1. Hi Martha, Aren't the ETK great? I have a weakness for those -- definitely not good for my budget though!
I love the look of the three purples I got so far. I still need to try them on my eyes, but they look promising! I hope to be able to post them in a few days. :)

    1. Hi Polarbelle, Thanks for the reminder about Nordstrom triple points! The purple shades I got are:
Endless Purple, Vibrant Violet, and Always Fuchsia, which is more like a magenta shade. Happy shopping :)

  8. WOW! Lancome is also launching pot eye shadow! I am so excited :D Surprisingly the color looks much darker than Chanel epatant. I really want to feel the texture of this eyeshadow.

    1. Hi memoiselle, I was pretty excited to see them too! I was surprised that this shade swatched so dark - in the store it looked lighter to me. I think it will be a nice shade to wear all on its own with some black eyeliner :)
