Nails of the weekend: Tom Ford Minx & Henri Bendel splurge

This weekend I've been wearing Tom Ford's Minx from the recent fall collection. Minx is a deep, dark brown with a subtle silver sheen. It reminds me of the color of espresso beans. (I noticed it tends to come across as plum toned in photographs, but in person it looks mainly brown.) I fell in love with the second shade from this collection, the dark metallic purple Dominatrix, but was at first undecided about Minx. Now that I've worn it for a while it's definitely growing on me! I don't have another brown quite like this. I think it is a nice alternative to burgundies and plums for fall, but is the type of neutral shade that would also work well year-round. Dominatrix and Minx are the only two Tom Ford polishes I own and I realize the price point of Mr. Ford's polishes is verging on unconscionable, so I plan to get as much use out of them as possible!

The weather is so beautiful right now I decided to do some outdoor photography. I love the way the dark branches and thorns look foreboding, like something that might be found on the pages of a Grimm fairy tale.

Bendel Bow Pave Ring and Deco Strap Bracelet
Tom Ford's Minx
Henri Bendel had their friends and family sale last week and I picked up a cute little jewelry box and some bangles that I've had on my wishlist for a very long time. The bracelet shown in the photos above is the Deco Strap Bracelet, which was featured in the holiday catalog. It has an adjustable strap with a buckle (like a watch strap) so it fits snugly. I think it would look equally nice worn casually with jeans or dressed up for a formal occasion. Ironically, I love jewelry but rarely wear it. I am often in a hurry and just don't bother with it. This is one of the reasons I bought the jewelry box--so I could keep everything in one place and easily accessible. Most days I'll put on just a watch and earrings, but lately I've been making an effort to wear rings and bracelets to the office, and when I do it definitely makes me feel more put together!

What do you think of Tom Ford's Minx? Are you a fan of brown for nails?

  1. That is such a pretty shade! How do you find the formula?

    1. Hi Replica, The formula was very nice, not too thick or thin, and applied easily and was opaque in two coats. I have been wearing it for only a day and a half, no chips so far - but do have a bit of tip wear. It dries fairly shiny, but I find that brown shades like this only look pretty when very shiny so I added Poshe topcoat to make it glossier. xx

    2. Thanks, that sounds good. I have asked for some Tom Ford for Christmas, so lets hope I get a polish :)

    3. I'd love to have Bordeaux Lust and Smoke Red! So gorgeous :) But I'm on a self imposed polish no-buy for a while. *sigh*

  2. Hi Makeup Magpie, what an absolutely beautiful photo story! I love how you've shown Minx among the thorns and soft ferns; it really does remind me of a fairy tale --- perhaps Sleeping beauty for the former and snow white for the latter. The Henri Bendel box is quite enchanting too :)

  3. Gorgeous photos, and I love the jewelry, as well! The jewelry box is exquisite and that bow ring is adorable. I rarely bother with anything besides ring + earrings, but I do have bracelets that I should wear more often.

    1. Hi Larie, Thank you! :) The little jewelry box is cute - it's small, but has just enough room for my Henri Bendel stuff :)

    1. Hi Maggie, Thank you! :) I've been splurging too much lately -- it always happens this time of year when all the pretty holiday things are out in stores! I told myself I will not buy anything new for a few months and use what I already have :)

    1. Hi Martha, I've enjoyed wearing the Minx and I'm on my third day and so far so good, no chips! The bow ring was the first thing I got from Henri Bendel. I think it's a nice size - not too big or too small :)

    1. Hi Anonymous, It can be hard to find a good brown polish. This one is nice and neutral. I think it would look great on any skin tone. :)

  7. I'm even more impressed by your handmodeling than the polish itself (so gorgeous and beautiful background too), although it is quite a beautiful colour

    1. Aw, thanks birkinbagbeauty! I had to get rid of the more awkward photos lol. That's the good thing about digital photography, it's so easy to just hit delete and try again! :)

  8. Minx is very pretty but I think I might find a dupe of this from OPI. I have never tried any of Tom Ford nail varnish product but would love to try it soon. Your pictures are always amazing and it's such a pretty sight for the eye xoxo.

    1. Hi Memoiselle, Thanks so much for the kind words! :) As I was writing this post I kept trying to think of any possible dupes I might have. There must be something similar out there at a better price! I think OPI's Espresso Your Style might be somewhat similar based on photos I've seen, but I haven't tried it myself.

  9. Its a gorgeous colour and lovely with your skin tone. I also really like the length of your nails I think dark vampy polishes look incredibly classy on short, neat, groomed nails.

    1. Hi ihavemostlybeen, Thanks so much for the sweet comment! I also prefer darker colors on shorter nails. :) But I'm afraid my nails won't grow much more than this even if I wanted them to--they always end up breaking off when they get any longer!

  10. Such a beautiful color and you have very very lovely hands :) My local Saks is slowly but surely getting some Tom Ford products in, they just got the nail polishes so I will be checking this color out.
I always drool at your photos and presentation, it's perfection

    1. Hi Michelle, Aw, thanks very much for the sweet comment! My Saks got rid of their Laura Mercier, Trish McEvoy and Bobbi Brown counters and now they have Tom Ford instead. If only they would bring in Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry (but I guess it's good for my wallet that they haven't done so!) :)
