A peek at Chanel's Spring Collection: Printemps Precieux

Chanel's spring collection is slowly making its way to counters. I absolutely love the look on the model in the promotional photos--simple, flawless, and quintessentially spring! I spotted the display in my local Saks recently and wanted to take home just about everything in the collection. It took great willpower to limit myself to three nail polishes, AccessoireEmprise, and Fracas (review forthcoming) and one eyeliner, Stylo Yeux in Or Rose

The two lip glosses included in this collection both look very lovely, as well as all of the lipsticks. I tend to reach for lighter shades, so my two favorite Rouge Allures were the light peach-nude Precieuse, and the cool pink Fantasque. Joues Contraste blush in Frivole is a pretty coral shade that is perfect for the spring season. It appears bright in the pan but is somewhat sheer, making it easily wearable.

The star product of the collection, the beautifully-embossed powder highlighter, Poudre Signée de Chanel, is gorgeous as expected. It has a pleasant, soft and smooth texture and imparts a veil of sheer white-gold shimmer to the complexion. (I am so sorry I was unable to get any clear photographs of this product in-store with my sad iPhone camera. If you haven't already seen it, visit Best Things in Beauty for a great review of this item.)

From left to right: Poudre Signée de Chanel highlighter, Frivole blush, and Raffinement eye quad

If you look very carefully at the far left above, you may be able to see some of the shimmer from the Poudre Signée highlighter. These photos were taken outdoors in sunlight, after I drove home from the mall. A bit of the highlighter had worn off in the interim, but the shadows and blush were still going strong!

The eyeshadow quad, Les 4 Ombres Quadra in Raffinement, has a selection of beautiful, basic (but not boring) neutral shades. It contains a medium-toned shimmery mink brown, pale satin muted pink/flesh-toned nude, a medium-toned shimmery warm fawn, and a dark matte chestnut brown (this shade was a bit patchy in comparison to the others). I especially love the two medium-toned shades in this palette--so, so pretty! All of the shades were smooth to the touch and nicely pigmented. If you like neutrals and brown shades, this palette is highly worth a look. I am seriously tempted to go back for this!

Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner:
Top to bottom:  Or Rose (pale gold), Santal (shimmery brown), and Beryl (pale lilac)

Rouge Allure Luminous Intense:
Top to bottom Precieuse (light peachy nude) and Fantasque (light cool rose/pink)

I'm sorry that these in-store swatches aren't the best, and regret that I don't have any product close-up photos but I hope this has been somewhat helpful anyway! I feel I should explain that I didn't purchase as many items from this collection as I would have liked, because I have been trying to cut back on makeup purchases (gasp!). This is for a few reasons, including financial, but also because I already have so many items, and I confess I don't have time to use up what I have. So in order to be responsible both fiscally and environmentally I think the trend for me in 2013 will be: reduce, re-use, recycle. In any case, though you may be seeing slightly less of the "latest and greatest" collections from me, I hope to provide some interesting material in the coming year, and I also have many things to share which I purchased over the last few months and have yet to review--including some of my first Tom Ford products. Stay tuned!

Do you have any items from Chanel's spring collection on your wishlist? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I was curious about Chanel Spring, and my counter did not have it out tonight. I decided to go google again this evening, and what should come up but your swatches! I also have way too many neutral browns as well as peach blushes. I had promised myself not to buy any from this collection, but only time will tell. I love Chanel :) Great swatches as always.

    1. Hi Martha, Thank you! I was surprised to see the collection out at Saks already, but Macy's & Nordstrom did not have it. I love Chanel too! I think I'll probably end up getting the eye shadow quad. The blush is really pretty too! :)

  2. Hi Makeup Magpie, it was fun to see swatches of Chanel's latest! Frivole looks like such a bright blush; just what we need for a change in seasons! I like how it looks paired with the more practical Raffinement.

    1. Hi Dovey, I agree :) Frivole is so pretty for spring :) I forgot to mention it earlier, but the brown eyeliner Santal coordinates perfectly with Raffinement! :)

  3. your swatches are lovely...I thought I'd love this(Chanel) collection, but it's not what I anticipated(that's a "thank you for saving me money" compliment by the way)What really caught my attention was your statement "in order to be responsible both fiscally and environmentally I think the trend for me in 2013 must be: reduce, re-use, recycle". Beautifully said.

    1. Thanks so much LRW for the kind comment! I didn't get a chance to swatch the darker lipsticks or lip liners & glosses, so you may still find something you like, but if I can save anyone some money that's always a good thing! :)

  4. That blush colour looks devine, I have to have it, it also seems flattering for a lot of skintones. I am a bit disappointed, I thought the lip colours would be more stunning. I have to take a look at this collection in person though. Thank you for the swatches :) / Claire

    1. Hi Claire, the blush is very nice! There are a few other lip colors that are darker than those shown here and more vibrant. And also an orangey-coral longwear lip color, and two lip pencils. Definitely worth checking out in person! :)

    1. Hi Replica, I think a lot of the items in this collection are very wearable and flattering :) I will definitely be revisiting the eye quad in the near future! :)

  6. I have been cutting back on my spending as well. There are just so many makeup items I've bought in the past that I really don't get a chance to use them well often enough. Makeup blogging does not only have to be reviews or swatches of the latest items. I love seeing posts featuring permanent and previously acquired makeup items as well and I look forward to read what you will be posting instead.

For this Chanel collection, I think I'm just going to get Frivole blush, L’Eclatante rouge allure velvet, Attriance extrait de glosses and beige nail polish Emprise pending how they turn out once I check them out in person.

    1. Hi Paige, Thank you! It's not easy to cut back when there are so many pretty things available! :) Your choices from the collection sound great - I really liked both of the glosses and the blush as well :)

  7. Oooh, I've been looking for a swatch of that blush! And the lilac liner's too pretty. Are the lipsticks that shimmery? I'm surprised! I can't wait to see the other lip things, though, but thank you so much for the swatches and such. :)

    1. Hi Carina, The lilac liner is an interesting shade and unique! I heard it works well to brighten the eyes when worn on the lower waterline. And what's nice about these liners is they do not budge! :)

    2. I think it is just the lighting that makes the lipsticks appear so shimmery... they do have shimmer, but it is very subtle and they are not frosty :)

  8. Your post totally convinced me to buy the eyeshadow quad. :P (Sorry if this appears twice)

    1. Hi Alison, It's a great basic quad and I think it will really coordinate well with the more bold pink lipsticks in this collection (which I didn't get a chance to swatch). If you have a lot of neutrals or the Urban Decay NAKED 1 & 2 palettes you might not need it, but even so I think it is unique enough that it would still be nice to have! :)

  9. Thanks for the lovely review!
The orange blush, the eyeshadow quad and the rose gold eye pencil are worth the attention. The highlighter looks very pretty too but I am still wondering whether it would look similar to Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel. :)

    1. Hi Memoiselle, Thank you! :)

I don't have Lumiere Sculptee but I think that the new highlighter may be more sheer and gold toned. Based on swatches I've seen of Lumiere Sculptee it seems like it gives a whitish pearly glow, whereas Poudre Signée de Chanel provides fine white-gold shimmer to the skin. It's very pretty, but doesn't give a realistic "lit from within" type of glow.

The blush looks like it would be super flattering :) I'm going to try to do a more detailed post on the Or Rose eye pencil soon!
