AERIN's 2013 Spring Color Collection offers a selection of cheerful pinks and peaches for lips and cheeks, and soft shades of pale pink, nude, dusty purple and lilac for eyes--perfect to kick-off the spring season. All of the products in this collection are named after flowers, which I thought was a nice touch! I chose just two items: Sweet Pea Multi-Color for Lips & Cheeks and Tulip Lipstick.
A little background on the brand: AERIN is targeted at the modern woman with a busy lifestyle who enjoys beauty, but is seeking a more streamlined routine with a minimal amount of products. The range consists of "The Essentials Collection," a well-edited selection of permanent basics such as foundation, powder, and makeup brushes. These are supplemented by small seasonal and limited-edition releases, "The Color Collections."
I am a big fan of Aerin Lauder's design aesthetic, which is reflected in the pretty and elegant product packaging, and promotional materials. Floral motifs are a predominating theme throughout the line. All of the products are said to be infused with a signature rose scent and contain skin-enhancing extracts of Magnolia Flower, Peony, and Meadow Foam.
The products are encased in gold-tone packaging. The Multi Color compact is embossed with an attractive linen-weave pattern and comes with a dusty-pink drawstring fabric pouch.
Left to right: Sweet Pea Multi Color and Tulip Lipstick
Sweet Pea Multi Color for Lips & Cheeks (.17 oz/5 g. $42) is a gorgeous, carnation pink shade with a touch of soft shimmer. It has a creamy, non-sticky texture that blends well into the skin. I was drawn to this item, not only because of its pretty color, but also because I love a product that can double as both lipstick and blush. The compact is a convenient size, and is very light--it appears to be made of plastic and doesn't have the weight one would expect from a high end brand. This could be a plus or a minus, depending on whether you plan to carry it in your bag--in which case, the lighter weight might be appreciated. Next on my wishlist is the Multi Color in the shade Freesia, a pale golden peachy-pink highlighting shade!

Tulip Lipstick (.14oz/4g $30) is a light blush pink, with subtle shimmer. It is slightly sheer with a creamy texture and moisturizing feel. It has a pleasant, very faint rose scent, without any taste. I don't own anything else exactly like it, but I have read that it is similar to Victoria's Secret's Wish. Tulip would make for a nice, subdued lip when wearing a heavier eye look.
Below is a photo I took earlier today of Tulip applied. I used my portable camera, which isn't the best quality, but I hope this gives you a better idea of the color. My swatches which were taken outdoors may be a bit deceiving, as sunlight has a tendency to warm up colors. My lips are not naturally pigmented, and on me it comes across as a light, slightly milky, nude-pink. It is lighter and cooler in comparison to Sweet Pea. I think it is neutral enough that it could work on both warm or cool-toned complexions. Because of my winter-pale skin, it has the potential to wash me out unless I compensate by using stronger blush and eye makeup. I like to use a bit of light-toned lip pencil for definition when wearing this color, such as Bobbi Brown's Pale Pink, Ballet Pink or similar.
All of the flowers shown in this post are photos I took of images in the AERIN Spring Collection brochure. Aren't they beautiful? I love the peachy-pink shades against the bright yellow. Do you have your eye on anything from the Spring Collection?
