Aerin Spring Beauty: Sweet Pea Multi Color & Tulip Lipstick

AERIN's 2013 Spring Color Collection offers a selection of cheerful pinks and peaches for lips and cheeks, and soft shades of pale pink, nude, dusty purple and lilac for eyes--perfect to kick-off the spring season. All of the products in this collection are named after flowers, which I thought was a nice touch! I chose just two items: Sweet Pea Multi-Color for Lips & Cheeks and Tulip Lipstick.

A little background on the brand: AERIN is targeted at the modern woman with a busy lifestyle who enjoys beauty, but is seeking a more streamlined routine with a minimal amount of products. The range consists of "The Essentials Collection," a well-edited selection of permanent basics such as foundation, powder, and makeup brushes. These are supplemented by small seasonal and limited-edition releases, "The Color Collections."

I am a big fan of Aerin Lauder's design aesthetic, which is reflected in the pretty and elegant product packaging, and promotional materials. Floral motifs are a predominating theme throughout the line. All of the products are said to be infused with a signature rose scent and contain skin-enhancing extracts of Magnolia Flower, Peony, and Meadow Foam.

The products are encased in gold-tone packaging. The Multi Color compact is embossed with an attractive linen-weave pattern and comes with a dusty-pink drawstring fabric pouch.

Left to right: Sweet Pea Multi Color and Tulip Lipstick

Sweet Pea Multi Color for Lips & Cheeks (.17 oz/5 g. $42) is a gorgeous, carnation pink shade with a touch of soft shimmer. It has a creamy, non-sticky texture that blends well into the skin. I was drawn to this item, not only because of its pretty color, but also because I love a product that can double as both lipstick and blush. The compact is a convenient size, and is very light--it appears to be made of plastic and doesn't have the weight one would expect from a high end brand. This could be a plus or a minus, depending on whether you plan to carry it in your bag--in which case, the lighter weight might be appreciated. Next on my wishlist is the Multi Color in the shade Freesia, a pale golden peachy-pink highlighting shade!

Tulip Lipstick (.14oz/4g $30) is a light blush pink, with subtle shimmer. It is slightly sheer with a creamy texture and moisturizing feel. It has a pleasant, very faint rose scent, without any taste. I don't own anything else exactly like it, but I have read that it is similar to Victoria's Secret's Wish. Tulip would make for a nice, subdued lip when wearing a heavier eye look.

Below is a photo I took earlier today of Tulip applied. I used my portable camera, which isn't the best quality, but I hope this gives you a better idea of the color. My swatches which were taken outdoors may be a bit deceiving, as sunlight has a tendency to warm up colors. My lips don't have a lot of color naturally, and on me Tulip comes across as a light, slightly milky, nude-pink. It is lighter and cooler in comparison to Sweet Pea. I think it is neutral enough that it could work on both warm or cool-toned complexions. Because of my winter-pale skin, it has the potential to wash me out unless I compensate by using stronger blush and eye makeup. I like to use a bit of light-toned lip pencil for definition when wearing this color, such as Bobbi Brown's Pale Pink, Ballet Pink or similar.

All of the flowers shown in this post are photos I took of images in the AERIN Spring Collection brochure. Aren't they beautiful? I love the peachy-pink shades against the bright yellow. Do you have your eye on anything from the Spring Collection?

    1. Hi Teri, Aerin uses a lot of pretty prints for her package designs. I agree - Sweet Pea is my favorite here as well! :)

  3. You know what? I purposefully checked out this collection in person and instantly thought of you! While gorgeous, I didn't feel the colours would work on me and walked away simultaneously disappointed and relieved. ;) They look stunning on you and I love the pics!

    1. Hi Liz, Thank you! You know me well! I tend to go for the same peachy pink colors and I love flowers of course :) I am always so relieved when I don't like anything in a collection - money saved :)

  4. These colours are sooo pretty! They look so gorgeous on you. My only issue with the Aerin line is that I actually find the packaging kind of...cheap. The light plastic doesn't make me feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Just me?

    1. Hi Daly Beauty, I feel the same way! For $42 I think we deserve some more luxe packaging. It looks pretty enough, but I was kind of disappointed by the plastic...

    2. AGREE! Sorry to be so blunt but I think it is actually JUNK--especially for high end line, LE, and the price! I have loved a few lipsticks and multicolor but I just want be blatantly honest about the packaging for anyone else seeking reviews. HTH! :)

    1. Hi LipstickBoulevards, Thanks so much! :) I liked Garden Path as well and am tempted to go back and get it before it is gone! My local counter doesn't seem to receive much inventory from these limited edition collections.

  7. I think this is one of the most beautifully executed brands I've seen in a while. The packaging is gorgeous, and the products are beautifully edited! I love Aerin's philosophy of makeup -- I'm forever trying to figure out that one perfect pink lip, the perfect red and buy only that product, but of course, I'm wildly experimenting until I get to that point!

    1. Hi Procrastinator, The patterns she uses are different and fun (they remind me a bit of Lilly Pulitzer's designs) and the little promotional brochures are so well done! I am the same way -- I set out on a quest to find the perfect holy grail shade and end up with an overabundance of products in the process! It's fun to experiment though :)

  8. Aww Shannon,
You look so pretty! I think this is my first time looking at your FOTD. Love your lip shade to the max. You make me want to buy Tulip even more :))

    1. Hi Meryl,
Aw, thanks so much for the kind comment! :)
Tulip is one of those shades that I think will look different on everyone depending on your natural lip color. It was a lot lighter on than I expected and I do think it is a bit pricey, but I have been wanting to try an AERIN shade for a long time and missed out on the fall limited edition nude shade I had my eye on.
      :))

    1. Thank you Replica! You are kind :) These are the first two items I've tried and I think I like the multi-color best so far. I also purchased a bronzer recently, but have yet to try it! x

    1. Hi RockPaperBeauty, Thank you!! :) Because of the angle of the sun at the time I took these photos the color of the packaging didn't come out as accurately as I would have liked. In reality it is brighter -- similar to the tone of 14k yellow gold. :)
