Today I'd like to share two polishes from Bobbi Brown's recent collection,
Pink & Red. This is a small, eight-piece collection that, in addition to the polishes shown here, includes two Creamy Matte Lip Colors, two Sheer Lip Glosses, and two Sheer Color Cheek Tints--all in beautiful shades of vibrant pink and red. (I didn't purchase any of the other items, though I was very tempted by the cheek tints!) I happen to love the look of pink and red when worn together. In theory, this combo might seem a bit too much, but a red lip with hot pink nails (and vice-versa) can actually look quite pretty and unexpected!

Pink Valentine is a cheerful fuchsia shade with the tiniest bit of violet shimmer. On the nails the shimmer can only be seen on close inspection in bright light, and the effect is extremely subtle. It has a somewhat thin, jelly formula. This is definitely a three-coater: the first coat was very sheer, the second a bit patchy, but the third was the charm. Sometimes I lack patience to build up sheer polishes, but I adore this color so much that it's worth the time and effort! It is just perfect for spring and reminds me of other hot pinks like Nars' Schiap and Chanel's Pulsion.

Valentine Red is a gorgeous bright cherry red. The formula covered well and was much more opaque than Pink Valentine, although it's not as thick as a true creme--I would say it lies somewhere between a creme and a jelly formulation. In these photos I used just two coats. It dried to a nice, glossy finish. Although there are a plethora of similar reds on the market (I think I may have a couple of dupes for this myself), I'm happy to have it and would recommend it to any red lover! If you missed out on Dior's stunning holiday red, Marilyn, this one is a nice substitute. It is also similar to Zoya's Rekha.

How cute with all of the candy!
ReplyDeleteHi Martha, thanks! I knew I wanted to photograph the bottles with some Valentine candy - so I got what was on sale at Target - Hot Tamales! :)
DeleteI totally thought I would love the pink one, but the red version is even prettier! The idea of something inbetween a cream and jelly is something awesome! I really love the pics, especially the last ones :).
ReplyDeleteHi Teri, Thank you! I really like both of these a lot. The red is gorgeous :)
DeleteBeautiful colours! Haven't tried Bobbi Brown nail polishes yet :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Lily, These are my second polish purchase from Bobbi Brown. I have been pretty happy with them so far! :)
DeleteHi Shannon,
ReplyDeleteBoth Valentine Red and Pink Valentine look quite classic (and perfect for Valentine's day)! I do love the look of the pink, so I should pull out NARS Schiap, as per your mention :-)
Hi Dovey, I think hot pink/fuchsia is probably might be my absolute favorite shade for spring. Nars Schiap is definitely a favorite! :)
DeleteThe red one looks sexy :)
ReplyDeleteHi Marina, It's a great red - really vibrant in sunlight! :)
DeleteReallllly fancy some jelly babies! These two polishes look great, the pink is soo pretty. Love the packaging of these polishes too :) xx
ReplyDeleteHI Sandy :) I'm wearing the pink today at work - love it! A little bit of brightness on my fingertips on a cold winter's day!
DeleteBoth shades look great, nevertheless, three coats are a bit too much for me, so I guess I prefer the red one! :)

Hi Lou, I think some people may not mind the look of the pink with two coats, but the color looks flawless with three :)
DeleteGorgeous photos. I love how to use the candies as the prop. It's a bummer that these polishes requires 3 coats for opacity. I don't have that much patience -_-
ReplyDeleteHowever, you influence me to use Chanel Pulsion for my next manicure session ;)
Hi Paige, Thank you!! :) Yeah, I was a little disappointed by the sheerness but the end result is so pretty! Chanel Pulsion is one of my favorite pinks :)
DeleteI love this colour combination - it's one of the few ways that I can tolerate pink. ;) You make them look gorgeous and I'm happy to enjoy BB polishes vicariously through you! I plan on getting a few basics from BB in the future but decided nail polish wasn't one of them. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Liz, Thanks! :) I don't usually think of Bobbi Brown when it comes to nail polish, but couldn't resist these when I saw them :) BB was my original go-to brand for foundation years ago. They have a great range of shades. :)
ReplyDeleteHey, you sent me your link on the #bbloggers chat so I came for a nosey. Your pictures are amazing! Hoping somewhere in your archives I'll find tips on taking super clear photos.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried Bobbi Brown nail polish, and think the pink looks really pretty. I love the shimmer running through it.

Hi Sara, Thank you! I find the key to clear photos is really great lighting and a good quality lens. :)
DeleteI have the pink valentine, I love hot pink shades and it is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous, me too -- hot pink is definitely one of my favorite shades to wear on nails! :)
DeleteI saw this nail polish shade and decided to pass on this. The color is just too common; pink and creme red.
ReplyDeleteYour picture looks lovely and it really looks like a valentine themed post :)
Hi Meryl, Thank you! I probably did not need them myself as they would be easy to duplicate with other, less expensive brands. But being the nail polish fiend that I am, I succumbed to temptation! I'm always looking for a "perfect" red :)
