Tom Ford Summer 2013 Cream Color for Eyes: Pink Haze and Escapade - Swatches and Comparisons

I picked up just two items from Tom Ford's summer collection: Escapade and Pink Haze Cream Color for Eyes. I regretted missing out on last year's cream shadows, so jumped at the chance to try these out. I am not sure how the texture of these compares to prior versions, but judging by photos alone they seem to be exactly the same. I was happy to see that the packaging has been improved--no longer is the TF logo a mere sticker placed on the top lid--now it is metallic gold-tone lettering on what seems to be a metal sleeve over plastic. The jar itself is made of glass and contains the same amount of product as in the past, .21 oz/6 g (made in Italy). The price remains the same as last year, at $40.

These have an interesting, slightly whipped, dense cream texture. They are a bit more malleable than Chanel Illusion D'Ombres and blend easily. Only a small amount of product is needed for each application, as the pigment is quite concentrated. Unlike, for example, MAC's Paint Pots, these do not dry and set completely, but remain transferable throughout the day. I like that they do not make your eyelids feel dry or uncomfortable like some long-wearing cream shadows can do after a while. I wore the two shades together today (look shown below) and did not have any issues with creasing and only minor fading at the end of my 9-hour workday.

05 Pink Haze

Pink Haze is a beautiful, shimmery, mid-tone copper-rose. While I was at the counter a woman with olive-toned skin, a few shades darker than mine, tried both shadows on and she chose this one, which was very flattering on her skin tone. Pink Haze is not an entirely unique shade, but nevertheless it is gorgeous and I think any pink lover would be pleased!

06 Escapade

Escapade is a pale, sunny chamois yellow. Of the two, this is my current favorite. It makes a great, brightening, base for other shadows and is also perfect on its own as an all-over lid shade. Love it! It has a sophisticated shimmer that is not overly metallic or frosty.

Below are a few comparisons. I don't own anything identical to either of these colors, but hopefully this will be helpful to give you a better idea of the true colors of these two. (You may notice some of the product slid around in the jar--this happened after I took photos of them in the sun. Lesson: don't store these anywhere too hot!)

  1. I was always curious about the texture of these, they look a bit like whipped mousse. I wasn't too excited about the shades this year in all honesty but your swatches made me think otherwise. Both are really lovely and the look you made is gorgeous on you, it really flatters your eye colour! I'm not sure if these will work on my oily eye lids, but hey, it's not available here anyway, hehe. ^^

    1. Hi Teri, Thanks for the kind comment :) This is the first time I've been able to see these in person as my local Saks finally expanded their Tom Ford counter not long ago. They are a lot thicker than I expected but still have a bit of a whipped texture which is kinda cool :) The shades are definitely on the warmer side this year!

    1. Hi Replica, Thank you! :) I probably won't be getting anything else from the collection, although I'd like to (the lipgloss is very pretty and the I also like the liquid shimmer face product) but I already overspent on Chanel! :)

    1. Hi Wendy, Glad to be of help! I did this look in the morning rush before work today and grabbed what was most convenient :) I used Maybelline's Master Precise liner in "Black" on the top lashline and on bottom lashline I used Urban Decay's 24/7 Liner in "Underground." On lips is a combination of two Glossy Tint lip pencils from Victoria's Secret: "Boudoir Pink" + "Manic Pink." Blush is BareMinerals "The Aphrodisiac" but any peachy-pink shade would do as well :)

  6. I just found your site and I am definitely bookmarking it! :) Thanks so much for these swatches. I've looked everywhere for swatches of Pink Haze and you seem to be one of the first to publish swatches. I just received Escapade yesterday and it's gorgeous - a perfect wash of color. Add a little eyeliner and mascara and it's a complete, eye brightening look. I have oily lids and the color creased slightly on my bare lids but today I used UD's primer and it's been crease-free all day. I think your swatches have helped me make up my mind about ordering Pink Haze - it's a definite yes! Now if my Fire Lust would just get here.... :)

    1. Hi Dawn and welcome, I hope you enjoy your Pink Haze. I think it works well with Escapade or even on its own :) I tried Fire Lust on in the store - so pretty! I wanted to take home everything in the collection :)

  7. Hi Shannon, These look like beautiful new additions to your collection! I was quite surprised at how nicely brightening Escapade was. I like how you've layered it with Pink Haze for depth. Very pretty!

  8. Hi Dovey, Thank you! :) I was kind of disappointed when I couldn't locate any of the first generation Tom Ford cream shadows (at the time they were released I wasn't really following the brand), so I'm glad to have a chance to try these out now. They are pricey but a little goes a long way. It would be nice to see more shades offered in the future. :)

  11. I've been curious about the texture of these. If it stays transferable the whole day, it would be bad for my lids. They look gorgeous on you! It's so glowy and healthy :-) Great picks!

  14. yes, pink haze looks amazing. I discovered warm shades recently and love playing with them a lot. This shade seems to be a deeper alternative to abstraction, which I really like. thank you for the swatches now I am sold for sure, I have to have it >.< / Claire xxx

    1. Hi Claire, It is deeper and the color is also a bit more concentrated. Abstraction is a lot cooler-toned as well. They are both pretty! :) xx

  15. Your makeup look looks very pretty yet effortless with Escapade on the lid and Pink Haze in the crease. The blending and color transition looks perfect and neat. This may sound silly to you but I can't seem to use 2 cream shadows together without looking like a hot mess. I'm ok with powder eye shadows though :P

    1. Thanks very much Paige! Cream shadows can definitely take a bit more work to blend than powders. I always have to be careful not to apply too much, or blend it up too high or else I'll end up looking over done! I find that smaller brushes make things easier :)

  16. They really do look like food :D I'm not very good with cream shadows, but this combination gives a really effortless, natural look!

  18. I always appreciate how you always do comparisons to similar colours in your collection. It really puts the colours into perspective for us. These shades look absolutely fabulous but I will unfortunately have to wait for dupes because this price point is a bit much:(

    1. Thank you! It can be hard to capture the true color in photographs - am glad the comparisons help! :) I agree, the price point is high - the product is great, but we get charged extra for the name :/

  20. These look absolutely STUNNING on you - it prompted me to order both shades for myself, I love the warm, effortless sunkissed look they give! They will be my first cream shadows with a whipped texture so may I ask what brushes you used to apply the product and also blend it out with?

    1. Hi - thanks so much! :) A MAC 239 brush or similar works well. Fingertips also work very nicely to blend this type of cream shadow. :)

  21. This looks so beautiful on you! I bit the bullet and was able to purchase Pink Haze before it sold out. I adore it, the shimmer is so varied and complex yet the color is more like a copper/rose gold on me and so easy to apply. That little pot will last me a long time, a little goes a long way.
I love your blog, such beautiful and simple photos with comparisons, you're so thorough! Thank you!

  23. I would like to ask if the cream eye shadows has an expiry mark of 6 months (like those cream sticks by Chanel) or a year (close to those of MAC), please?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi manman, I could not find an expiration date listed on the jar or on the box. I have seen on other blogs comparisons that include photos of last year's TF cream shadows and it looks like the product has not deteriorated in that amount of time.

    2. Hi!, thanks very much for trying, it seems TF makeup have less attention to such details.

I usually own cream e/s with the 12M or 18M logo, so when I looked at the Chanel Stylo pens with the 6M logo at the pen, it kind of freaks me out and reminds me to check for this recently raved cream formula before purchase.

  24. I had also heard about the expiration date on the Chanel Stylo pens - I purchased a few, but I know I'll never be able to use them that quickly! This reminds me I'd better put them into rotation more often. I plan to use them for at least a year anyway :)
