Look of the Day: Pink, Champagne & Copper

Even though summer isn't over yet I'm already in the mood for fall colors like copper and bronze. I am so looking forward to that first touch of coolness in the air so I can enjoy walking outdoors again, minus the 90-plus degree Miami heat and humidity. Yet I know when winter arrives I'll be complaining about the cold. C'est la vie! After so many years of living in a tropical climate I'm not sure how I would fare in a city that really gets cold. My absolute favorite times of the year are spring and fall!

Today's look is technically not entirely a "fall" look since the cheeks and lips are still somewhat bright and spring-like, but on the eyes, Laura Mercier's Burnished Copper is definitely the sort of color that comes to mind when I think of fall and things like turning maple leaves, pumpkin pie, and apple cider with cinnamon sticks. On me, coppers can be tricky--if they have too much red or orange in them they can look unflattering. But this one is more like a beautiful, shimmery, deep mahogany brown and is quite wearable, especially with the addition of black liner.

I have had the two shades of Creme Eye Colour shown below, Platinum and Burnished Copper for a while and decided it was time to put them to use. They have great pigmentation and are quite concentrated--I soon learned that only the tiniest dab of product is needed and that I need to be careful not to over squeeze! This product has been on the market for several years so many of you may have tried them. If so, let me know if there are any other shades you would recommend.

Platinum on inner third of lid and crease with Burnished Copper on outer two-thirds of lid and blended up into crease. MAC Creme Liner in Black on upper lash line and MAC Pearlglide in Spare Change on bottom lash line.

  • Eyes: MAC Pearlglide Eyeliner in Spare Change and Creme Liner in Black; Laura Mercier's Creme Colour in Platinum and Burnished Copper
  • Cheeks: Chanel Cream Blush #64 Inspiration
  • Lips: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Native, 24/7 Lip Pencil in Native and deepened edges a bit with Clinique's Plush Pink liner (not shown)

Left to right: MAC Creme Liner Black , MAC Pearlglide Spare Change, Laura Mercier Metallic Creme Eye Colour in Burnished Copper and Platinum, Chanel Cream Blush Inspiration, Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick and 24/7 Lip Pencil in Native

One of my favorite new lipstick formulas is Urban Decay's Revolution. These have a cream-gel hybrid texture that provides a bit of shine to the lips, but even after hours of wear I find that the product doesn't migrate into my lip lines, either with or without a liner, which is an unexpected plus! The shade shown here is Native, a cool toned, pale mauvey-pink (looks warmer in these pictures than it really is), along with its matching 24/7 Lip Pencil. I found the lip pencil to be lighter and cooler-toned than what I'm used to wearing, but it is an excellent match for the lipstick. I love the idea of having matching lipsticks and liners and hope other brands follow their lead.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you all have a great week!

    1. Hi Eesha, Thanks very much! :) The cream blush is available at Chanel.com. Where are you located? In the U.S. they can also be found at retailers like Saks, Nordstrom, and Macy's :)

    2. I'm sorry I think I answered your question incorrectly! I LOVE the Chanel cream blushes - they last all day on me and are not patchy. My favorite cream blush at the moment :)

    1. Hi Gaelle, I like the one shown and also "Naked" has become a daily go-to shade for me! "Streak" is also a pretty coral :)

  4. So stunning. I always wanted to try Laura Mercier's metallic creme colors and Chanel Inspiration looks gorgeous on you. Inspiration is the one I skipped, thinking it wouldn't show on me but I may have to check that out in person. You probably don't powder on the cheek creme color right? (For finishing)

    1. Hi Sara, Thank you!!

I am really liking the LM creme colors I have so far - the one drawback is the darker shade creased a bit, but I think if I really thin out the product as I blend upward that should help. It looks great worn full strength on the lids though! :) The Platinum shade is a nice color to use as a base for other shadows.

I really LOVE Chanel's Inspiration. It shows up well on me. I am about an NC20 in MAC or Sand in Bobbi Brown. :)

    2. I haven't tried powder over the blush, only because my skin is super dry. These last most of the day on me without much fading :)

  5. You look lovely :) Bronze on the eyes with pink lips and cheeks is my go to look. I am also enjoying Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks- I haven't tried the liners yet.

    1. Hi Martha, Aw, thanks! :) I am loving pink with bronze - I think I like that combo better than peach & bronze. I probably could have skipped the Urban Decay liners, because the lipsticks look pretty good on their own and don't bleed or anything. Naked liner is a good neutral to have - they just revamped it and made it lighter and more natural looking. :)

    1. Thanks so much Tracy! I hope you like the UD lipsticks. It was hard for me to find a color I liked so I tried them out in Sephora first but I've seen lots of good swatches online :)

    1. Hi Clare, thanks very much! I am happy with these two shades. I think the lighter colors might be easier to work with. The dark one did crease a bit (and I have super-dry skin), but overall not bad and the color is very pretty! :)

    1. Thank you! :) I also love Urban Decay's Naked and have been using that shade most out of the colors I purchased. I wish I could pull off darker colors - there are quite a few that look really pretty!

  11. I am really looking forward to trying those lipsticks- I think a trip to Sephora is probably in my future. I complain a fair bit about the cold here in the Midwest, but I would gladly take winter weather over heat and humidity any day. I probably wouldn't fare very well in Miami!

    1. Hi Rach, The Urban Decay lipsticks are pretty nice! Yeah, Miami is a great place to visit but only in the spring or fall/winter. Summer is hot and then there is always a chance of a pesky hurricane, but we've been very lucky so far this season! :) I would love to visit the Midwest sometime!

    1. Hi Rylee, thank you! Since my 20's are way behind me I like to keep my makeup light because I find anything too heavy (especially heavy foundation and very dark lipstick) makes me look older :)

  13. Looking amazing as always! Love how understated these colours are but they still make such a great impact.

Your skin always looks so great. What's your skincare routine like? Maybe a future post some day? :)

    1. Hi Liz, Thank you my friend! I am pretty lazy when it comes to skincare and lots of creams I have tried make my skin peel and I can't figure out why, so for now I am using coconut oil to remove makeup and it also works as a moisturizer (right now using up a jar of RMS Beauty Raw Coconut Cream) :)

    1. Hi RLBH, Thanks! :) I deepened & warmed up the Urban Decay Native lipstick with a rosey liner because I found it to be a little to light and cool toned for me, but I think it should work well alone on people with cooler skintones!

  16. You look like a doll. Gorgeous! I have been a fan of Laura Mercier. Lately it's been not that exciting for me in the color department. My favorite of hers are the caviar sticks. I have worn them from 0-100% humidity and they perform like a workhorse. Burnished Copper is something I would really be interested in trying out. Thank you for the wonderful post!

    1. Hi Emilie, Aw, thank you! :) The Caviar Sticks are amazing, aren't they? Definitely one of my favorite products. The Creme Colours are a bit messier and not as convenient to use as the Caviar Sticks and they have a tendency to crease a bit, but the colors are very pretty! Burnished Copper is great for fall!
