Face of the Day: Pastel Pink Orchid

One of the items used in today's look is a pastel pink and orchid shadow duo I purchased long ago from Prescriptives, back when they had counters in Macy's stores (the brand now has an online-only presence at Prescriptives.com where you can still find many of their iconic products). The duo was barely used before I stashed it away, and while organizing recently I pulled it out from the bottom of a container and thought I'd give it another try before tossing it! I don't normally go for pastel shades on eyes but, for me, the addition of heavy liner helps to make it more wearable. Below is a list of a few similar shades that could stand in for these two:

Pale Pink

MAC Seedy Pearl
MAC Pigment Pink Opal
MAC Pink Freeze
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Pink Opal
Chantecaille Lilac Rose

Orchid

Laura Mercier African Violet
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Orchid
MAC Creme de Violet
The right half of NARS Sugarland Duo
Lancome Camisole (discontinued)

Prescriptives In Bloom Eye Color Duo "Lily"

Here are swatches of everything used to create this quick and simple look:
Left to right:
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner - Dark Brown
MAC Eye Kohl - Heirloom
Prescriptives In Bloom Eye Color Duo - Lily
Bare Minerals READY Blush/Luminizer - The Natural HighThe Shining Moment
Urban Decay 24/7 Lip Pencil - Illegal
Chanel Rouge Coco - Gardenia MAC Lipstick - Myth

On eyes I used the pale pastel pink on the lid and the darker shimmery orchid shade in the crease, with Stila's brown liquid liner on top lashline, MAC's Heirloom on bottom lashline, and black mascara. On cheeks I used a combination of the two shades in the BareMinerals Blush/Luminizer palette. On lips I used Chanel's Gardenia (a shimmery mid-tone rose). I used MAC's Myth to tone down the shimmer and lighten it up a bit and then lightly defined and blended in the edges with Urban Decay's Illegal pencil.

I purchased Stila's Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner for the first time and have been impressed by its longevity and also like its finely-tapered tip. Whenever I switch to a new type of felt-tip liner I have to use it a few times before I'm able to figure out the best method of application. Each one I've tried is shaped a bit differently and creates the "wing" slightly differently. To make things easier, I should just settle on one brand, but I have yet to become loyal to any in particular. Do you have any favorites?

I love MAC's Heirloom liner. It is a silvered-lavender and is one of my favorite shades to define the lower lashline when wearing plums or purples, although it coordinates well with just about anything because it comes across as quite neutral. It adds brightness to the eyes, but is not garish or overly metallic and I find it easier to wear than a pure silver tone. Sadly, this was a limited-edition shade and is no longer available, but I hope MAC brings it back in the future!

  1. Your overall look is oh so pretty, very girly yet comes across as pulled together and mature. Just my type of look. And for the first time I've come across somebody who uses a brown felt tip liner. I guess I've never really searched for it because all of the blogs that I see is black liner. So happy to open my wordpress and see your post because now I have you to thank for these new discoveries. These includes that gorgeous MAC Eye Khol in Heirloom. Love learning new things...to buy (>;<) The life... Looking forward to your next post!

    1. Hi Emilie, thanks so much for the kind comment! I alternate between using black and brown liner. I find that black can sometimes be a little too dramatic with certain looks. :)

    1. Hi Jenni, Thank you! I haven't worn pink shadow like this in a long time - I don't know why I usually go for golds, taupes and browns but this is fun for a change!

  6. That is very lovely. I love the lip combo. I alternate between Stila Waterproof liner( the one you are using) and Make Up For Ever Aqua liner. They are the only things that last on my eyes.

    1. Hi Jacqueline, Thank you!! :) I am trying to use up the Chanel Gardenia shade but it is a little dark for me - Myth is great to lighten up any color. This Stila lasts all day on me! Look forward to trying the MUFE Aqua liner. :)

    1. Hi Tracy, Thanks so much! :) I have a few of the BM pressed powder blushes. They are not my absolute favorites, but I do reach for them a lot. This shade is like a more sheer version of NARS Orgasm. :)

    1. Hi Kristina, Thanks so much! Did you like the Macroviolet? I've always loved purples. I used to wear pink eyeshadow often when I was younger - I'm not sure why I got out of the habit, but I still like it! :)

    2. Well, I wish it was more pigmented - I usually have to layer it to get it to show clear, even color on me - but I love the shade :)

    3. Yep, I have to layer it as well. I've read some mixed reviews about it, but the color is pretty - which reminds me I should use it more often! I've gotten lazy lately and have only been using felt-tip pen liners because they are so quick and convenient, but I can't forget my gel liners! :)

  10. Beautiful, stunning look on you! Polished and pretty. Your skin is flawless; you are sooooo blessed to have a perfect canvas. You have inspired me to take out my pinks; I have been wearing peach through the summer. I also went on ebay and bought heirloom. I hope it is authentic... Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring. I look forward to your next FOTD. Have a wonderful week.

  11. Looking gorgeous as always. Love how feminine and soft these are. I'm not a fan of pink looks because some can be so garish, but your picks here are classy and elegant. Perfect!

    1. Hi Lily, Thank you!! :) There are many shades of pink I have trouble pulling off, especially anything with a lot of red tones, but these shadows are pretty sheer which makes them easier to wear. I remember when I was in my late teens I used to wear frosty pink shadow all the time lol :)
