NARS Face of the Day

The NARS brand has been a long-time favorite of mine, but for some reason I tend to neglect my NARS shadows (I think this is mostly due to inefficient storage: out of sight, out of mind. I need a better storage system!). I was inspired recently by the new eye shadow shades in the Guy Bourdin holiday collection and while thinking over whether or not I will splurge for any of them during Sephora's Nov.7-11 VIB sale, I decided I would shop my stash in the meantime and create an all-NARS look.

I knew in advance that I wanted to use the Kuala Lumpur duo, but confess the lip shades I chose were just items that were close at hand, but I do like the end result of these two lip pencils combined--you know I love my peachy-pink lip colors, even in the fall!

Left to right: Bolero Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and New Lover Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil

Lipliner Pencil in Fantasia

Fantasia is a creamy light, warm, peachy-nude shade. It was too warm for the cooler pink, New Lover pencil, but after a bit of blending it was almost undetectable. This would be a great shade for any light peach or warm nude lip colors. I imagine it would coordinate perfectly with shades like NARS Barbarella.

Realm of the Senses Cheek Palette

I've had the Realm of the Senses palette for a while and really like it -- it is effortless and coordinates well with so many different looks! (See my July review of this palette for more photos along with comparison swatches.)

El Dorado Cream Eyeshadow

I used El Dorado, a lovely light gold, as a base all over the lid and blended up into the crease. I found that it really intensified the pigment in the Kuala Lumpur shadows and added dimension and a nice glow, as well as increased wear time.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope your fall is off to a great start!

  1. What a beautiful selection of NARS products. I especially love the look you did, luminous and pretty. I just wish NARS would do something about ther rubber packagng. Some of my NARS products are getting a little dirty.

    1. Hi Jacqueline, Thank you! :) I agree - the packaging looks nice, but gets dirty so easily and over time the material they use deteriorates and gets sticky. I have a few powder products I've had for years that are still fine on the inside but the packaging was so sticky, I tossed them!

    1. Hi Dovey, Thank you! :) Kuala Lumpur is a nice duo for fall, with that boysenberry shade. I haven't really used it much up until this point, but must remember to pull it out more often! The gold base really helped bring out the shimmer. :)

  6. I love the whole look! Sometimes I enjoy using one brand for my entire face as well- kind of a fun challenge.

  7. Ah, beautiful! I've been eyeing the NARS duo eye shadows but don't know which one to get first. I was debating between Cordura and All About Eve, but I think Kuala Lumpur looks much better. Love everything about this post, but one thing about NARS I really don't like is the packaging. The rubber melts after a few years :-( Had to de-pot my Laguna because the case died. I have a feeling Orgasm is next.

    1. Hi Lily, Aw, thank you for the kind comment! :) I have a few shadows that did the same thing... I wish they would use another material for the packaging so that it wouldn't get all sticky after a few years. I know they say makeup expires after a couple of years, but I like to keep my powder products for a lot longer than is recommended! I really like the Kuala Lumpur duo because I love gold and burgundy shades in general. Cordura and All About Eve are also nice neutral palettes. Have you seen the eye palette "And God Created The Woman" - it has 6 neutrals & looks like a nice way to try out some classic NARS shades.

  8. Wow, you're stunning! I love everything about this look. There's something warm and cozy about it. Maybe it's the glowy eyes or the plush pink lips. Perfect fall face. :)

    1. Hi Rocaille, Thanks very much! Have fun with your look :) I love to play around with color although I tend to stick to neutrals, plums and golds and taupes most of the time. Have you seen the new holiday products at NARS? I'm loving a couple of the Guy Bourdin single shadows...

    1. Hi Larie, Thank you my friend! :) Gold has become my favorite all-over shade, even more than taupe! El Dorado is nice because it is not too dark or warm or overly sparkly. It's just perfect to use as a base with so many different colors :)

  15. I stumbled upon your blog and I decided to check it out when I saw that you live in South Florida. So do I :) When I moved here, I had to do some experimenting with makeup due to sunscreen and all that.
