Aerin Freesia Multi Color for Lips and Cheeks

Freesia Multi Color for Lips and Cheeks ($42 limited edition) from Aerin's Spring 2013 collection is a beautiful pale golden-peach shade that is light enough to be used as a highlighter, but when applied heavily it has enough pigment to also serve as an understated blush. It is definitely shimmery, but in a refined sort of way--without any large chunks of glitter. It has a creamy consistency that does not feel heavy or sticky on the skin, and I love that it works well as both a lipstick and cheek color. I had purchased the other, darker, shade in this collection, Sweet Pea, a couple of months ago and liked it so much I decided to go back for Freesia before it's gone!

As you can see above, Freesia is more golden and less pink-toned than Nars Orgasm and Super Orgasm. At first glance, Freesia might appear to be similar in tone to Nars' Orgasm Illuminator as it looks here in my swatch, straight from the tube and unblended--but in reality they are quite different (as you may know, the texture of Nars' Illuminators is a thin, gel-liquid that becomes sheer when blended out).

As a lipstick, Freesia is comfortable to wear and moderately long lasting. It is shimmery, but not glossy or shiny, and is thicker and more opaque than a lipgloss. It provides about the same coverage as a typical sheer lipstick formula. The color is lighter than the shades I normally grab for, but wearable. I think it will be perfect over a slightly darker pink, coral or peach lipstick or pencil.

Shades of peach, pink, or coral blended with gold are favorites of mine year-round and I reach for them even more, now that spring is here! Do you have any favorite products that are similar?

Saturday Window Shopping & Pet Shop Stop

Hello friends! It's been a while since I've been able to do a full post, but I thought I would share these snapshots I took while I was out earlier today. I've been enjoying spending time on Instagram lately, and those of you who follow me there may have already seen a few of these photos (you can find me on Instagram by clicking on the pink camera icon at the top right of this page).

Springtime is always a fun time of year for shopping, in both the fashion and beauty realms--especially if you are a fan of color. Brights and pastels are a great way to shake off the winter doldrums and get ready for summer.

The Swarovski boutique always has gorgeous crystal jewelry and unique collector's items on display.

I also stopped by the local pet store to pick up some shampoo for my cat, Miss Kitty, who some of you may remember from past posts. Whenever I'm at the pet store I like to look at the cats and puppies that are up for adoption and always leave the store hoping that they all find good homes. I wish I could do more to help! I imagine it must be difficult to place adult cats. One of my favorite local non-profits is The Cat Network, an organization that provides a great service to the community by fostering and finding homes for stray or unwanted cats such as those shown here.

This one looks sad (she is cross-eyed), but she was a sweetheart and very friendly

Look of the Day with Dolce & Gabbana's Fortune Duo

Here's a simple look I wore yesterday. I wanted to test out my new Clinique Chubby Stick in Bountiful Beige as an eye shadow base and tried it here underneath Dolce & Gabbana's Fortune duo, which contains a dark plum satin and a white-gold shimmer. I used Bobbi Brown's Black Plum as a liner on the top lash line and MAC's Heirloom pencil on the lower lash line.

I love the look of warm and cool tones together and like to play around with different combinations. Here the contrast of the warm pale gold shadow with the cool silvery-lavender liner helps to add interest to a look that might otherwise be a bit dull and one-dimensional.

On cheeks I used a current favorite, Burberry's Peony--a perfect spring-time pink, and on lips I used Dolce & Gabbana's Baby Darling, a soft peachy pink with subtle shimmer.

In the arm swatches I applied the Fortune Duo over Bountiful Beige Chubby Stick, which made the plum shade appear shimmery; however, when used on its own it does not have any shimmer.

The Chubby Stick did a nice job of deepening the plum and brightening up the pale gold from the Fortune duo. Bountiful Beige is a versatile, neutral champagne color that is well suited for use as a base, but is also a great all-over lid color. Lately I've been swiping it on in the mornings before work, when I don't have time to do a more elaborate eye look.
