Laura Mercier Spring Renaissance Collection 2014 Lip Colours: Play, Brigitte and Palm Beach

I'm finally getting around to showing you the three lipsticks I chose from Laura Mercier's spring collection, Spring Renaissance. You may already be familiar with the two of these that are repromotes, Brigitte and Palm Beach. Play is a shade from the new Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour range.
Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in the shade Play

Play is a shimmery light peachy-pink with a semi-matte finish. Although this formula is described as weightless I can't really say that it stood out to me as being particularly light in feel as compared to other lipsticks I've tried, but it does have a comfortable feel on the lips and is not sticky or heavy in any way.

The Creme Smooth formula is my favorite in the Laura Mercier line. Although these two are not new shades, I could not resist adding them to my collection when I saw them featured with the 2014 spring collection. Palm Beach is a beautiful, bright coral creme and Brigitte is a very pale milky apricot-pink, without any shimmer. They both have the great Creme Smooth finish and pigmentation.

Left to right: PlayBrigitte and Palm Beach

I had high hopes for Play, as I normally find peachy-pinks to be flattering, but it is slightly more frosty on me than the shades I'm used to wearing these days. It is a pretty shade though--a light warm pink with a few barely noticeable fine sparkles scattered throughout. It has a rather dull finish, so might benefit from a bit of sheer lip gloss. It would be a great shade to wear with a stronger eye look. This formula and color reminds me a bit of a more subdued, modernized version of two frost shades that long-time MAC users may remember, Ramblin' Rose (warm frosty peach) and Melting Kiss (warm frosty pink). I used to love a shimmery lip back in the day!

Creme Smooth Lip Colour: Brigitte

Brigitte is a delicate, milky peachy-pink. Despite its paleness, it is the type of nude that I can wear (with the help of a light lip liner) without fear of being completely washed out. This is no small achievement given my pasty complexion! This will be a great shade to reach for when wearing a smoky or colorful eye look. (Visit my prior post on Laura Mercier's Enlightenment Eye & Cheek Palette for more photos of this shade worn).

Creme Smooth Lip Colour: Palm Beach

Palm Beach is what I consider the quintessential spring coral. It's definitely bright, but is still perfectly wearable. However, if you are like me and feel a bit self-conscious when wearing dark or bold lip colors, it is easily toned down by mixing in a bit of your favorite pale nude lip color or by blotting and adding a pastel peach or shimmery gold gloss. I plan to mix it with Brigitte!

Are you a fan of the Laura Mercier Creme Smooth formula? What are your favorite shades in the range?

Thanks for visiting and happy spring!

  1. !! Palm Beach looks stunning on you, Shannon! (Well, they all do, but that one is my favorite). And Brigitte is a great nude! I hadn't considered these at all, but now I'm wondering if they're still available. I like the Rouge Nouveau line myself - it seems like "Play" is a Pearl finish. I think their names start with the same letter as their finish (I have Mink, which is matte - I love it) so I was curious what the "P" names could be.

  2. Hi Larie, Thanks so much for the kind words! :) Ah that makes sense - interesting way of naming their lipsticks! I will have to check out Mink -- I haven't tried any of the other Rouge Nouveaus yet. I think I might prefer the matte finish :)

  3. The collection is finally out here, I was tempted to pick up play but thought it looked a bit too frosty, shame as I do really like the colour. I didn't look at Brigitte as assumed it would bee too pale but it looks gorgeous on you. I didn't buy anything as the SA was really pushy so will go for a second look when she is not there ;)

    1. Hi Clare, Play is definitely frosty and a bit dry-appearing on the lips. I wouldn't say it is a must-have, but will use mine occasionally. I think it will work nicely with a smoky eye :) Brigitte is one of those colors I MUST wear a lip liner with or mix in a darker pink or coral. It is super-pale, but I do like it :) I sympathize and hate when SA's are pushy - it really just makes me want to leave the store and purchase the items online instead! I used to enjoy trying on colors in Sephora, but lately the SA's have become overly attentive there as well. xx

  6. Among these lippies, Play is prettier in my opinion. I like the idea of being weightless for I like lippies that are light. I will surely check on this one =)

    1. Hi Ana, Play is a pretty color, especially if you don't mind shimmer. I like the slim package design of the weightless lip colours. I have heard good things about the others shades in this range as well! :)

    1. Thank you! :) These were water lilies I saw recently at Pinecrest Gardens in Miami. I took a photo of them and cut them out with Photoshop. I just love water lilies - I think they are so interesting looking and beautiful!
